Description

As a kid I remember going to the granary with my mom to pick up feed for the cows and chickens we had at home. It was probably the tallest building in town and for me it was the closest thing to a skyscraper I knew. I always wanted to explore that big building but unfortunately the closest I ever got was to the poorly lit office just inside the front door. The nooks and crannies created by all the pallets of bags of grain would have made the perfect hide-n-go-seek location.

The granary was torn down several years ago in the name of progress to develop a Fifth Avenue corridor. But to this day, when I’m in a barn or an old shed and smell that combination of straw, dust and grain- it takes me right back to those days of my childhood.
